Accommodating larger families at Walt Disney World:

Finding hotel rooms for families of 5 or more can be a difficult task when going to Walt Disney World. Sometimes families need to get 2 rooms instead of one larger room, but the downfall to the 2 rooms, is there is no 100% guarantee that they will be joining with a door between the two.

There have always been suites, which were started about 20 or so years ago, in the Disney Vacation Club properties, which house 1 and 2 Bedrooms as well as Grand Villas. While these are a great option, they are not in everyone's budget. This is where the family suites come in, they give room for all families to enjoy the larger rooms.

Back in 2006, the family suites were born. The first Resort to convert their standard rooms to Family Suites was All-Star Music. It was a success as they expected, so they decided to use what was supposed to be an extension of POP Century that never was completed, to make the Family Suite Category at Art of Animation Resort.

To help you realize that everyone can go to Disney is a goal of mine. No family should shy away because they think they won't fit or be able to afford a larger room. They are more than a standard room but less than a DVC room.

Now that you know a little about the Family Suites, let's look at the list that I have comprised of Suites and larger rooms across the Walt Disney World Resort.

All-Star Music

This is going to be your least expensive option of all of the suites. The resort hosts loads of oversized decor throughout, as well as in the pools and landscape. There is a rock n roll vibe here that makes this resort unique from the other All-Stars. It runs buses to all 4 parks as well as to Disney Springs. And the best part is that all of the suites were recently renovated just a few years ago.

  • 1 of the baths has a shower and one has a tub

Art of Animation

One of the biggest draws of this resort is that it is on the Skyliner, which takes you directly to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. You can walk across the lake to POP Century if you get tired of the food offerings at AOA. The grounds are filled with oversized movie icons that take you right into a scene from Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Cars, or The Little Mermaid. This section of the resort is unique because, unlike any other value resort, it has internal hallways in the suite area.

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness

This is considered a Moderate Resort. They are on the grounds of Fort Wilderness, so you have the rustic camping vibe even if you don't have an RV to stay in there. You can boat to Magic Kingdom from there.

These cabins have recenty been renovated. Although they are now in the DVC (Disney Vacation Club) Category, you are still able to book them. See original cabin on the left and the newly imagined ones on the right.

The 5th Sleeper Style room

This type of room holds 5 guests, or 5-6 depending on the ages of the children. They are not suites but have an extra single bed that pulls down from the wall. These rooms are currently in Port Orleans French Quarter, The New Little Mermaid rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort, and the DVC Studio rooms.

  • 1 single pull down

1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and Grand Villas

These style suites can be found in all of the DVC properties except for the Polynesian Resort. The only options there at this time for extra space are the Deluxe Studio or a Bungalow.

  • 1 Bedroom Suites - One bedroom with a bathroom and a King Bed. Some have split baths, meaning the toilets and the shower are in separate rooms.

The main area has a pull-down murphy bed, TV, balcony, and full kitchen with full full-sized refrigerator and a dining table. These rooms also have a washer and dryer in the room. Some details vary depending on the resort. Some 1 Bedrooms have 1 bathroom and some have 2. And usually have a tub and shower. This room will sleep 4-5 guests.

1 & 2 Bedroom Villas

  • 2 Bedroom Villas - One Bedroom will have a King Bed, the other will have 2 Queen beds. Each room has its own bathroom, one with a tub, and the other with a shower. In most cases, there is a 3rd full bath in the living area. The main living area between the 2 bedrooms has a full kitchen with all of the necessities of a home as well as a full-sized dining table. There are sleeping for 3 in the configuration of a full-size sofa bed and a single-size chair bed. There is also a washer and dryer in the room. This room will sleep 8-10 guests.

  • Grand Villa, Bungalow, and Cabin (at Copper Creek) - These are some amazing accommodations. The Grand Villas have 3 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 12 people. They have a King bed, 4 Queen Beds, a Queen sleeper sofa and some have a single pull-down bed. The Bungalows

    Bungalow at Poly

and the Cabins at Copper Creek are set up like a single home with a Kitchen, 2 Bedrooms, a living area, and a private patio. The cabin has a hot tub on a screened-in porch, and the bungalow has a small plunge pool out over the water.

So there you have it, if you are a larger family, no problem, we have the options for you. Want to have a family reunion, wedding, event??? I have you covered there too. The options are endless and absolutely stunning throughout all of Walt Disney World Resort.
